The Rise of AI and Brave New Technology



By now, you may have heard about ChatGPT. It’s an Artificial Intelligence program that works like a search engine. It has the side benefit of producing word-perfect essays. That’s how I learned about it. You can imagine how sweet this is for high school and college students. 


Of course, I wasted no time getting my own ChatGPT account. Just for fun, I asked it to write numerous essays and it did so flawlessly—in seconds.


Amazing. Maybe it could do all my grant writing this year….


But I digress. 


Because of Artificial Intelligence, the social media-famous psychologist, Dr. Jordan Peterson, predicts that a third of the universities will go broke in five years. We’ll see. AI is already smarter than we are, so perhaps writing college essays is now irrelevant. But we do need skilled computer scientists—so we can at least manage the AI.


Elon Musk predicts the world will be controlled by whoever produces the most functional AI system the fastest. So, Musk is researching how we each can have our own AI to protect us from rogue AI systems. A whole new kind of home invasion protection.


Considering how fast China is working to develop AI supremacy, let’s keep Musk on our side. And let’s get AI experts on his side helping. Fast.


Jonathan Pajo said, “Giants are going to walk the earth once more.” Those giants are AI.

Dreaming big dreams about the future is easy for kids. The only thing standing in the way is time.  Kid’s dreams are not about skills, or opportunities, or even practicality. Those things come much later.  My grandson hopes to be professional soccer player when he grows up. Wild or Tame? Which One Are You?

Finally! Research that explains why I act the way I do. Columbia University’s Motivational Science Center studied people’s activities and what brought them the most happiness. Even more telling were how those activities changed as they aged. Twenty-somethings tend to equate happiness with high-energy activities. Words like excited and ecstatic are usually attached to spontaneous things—even risky things—and living life full throttle.  Researchers labeled this Promotion Motivation —the urge to take chances, including career moves that may not work out. Happiness comes from happenings—the more happenings, the more happiness. By age forty, adults associate happiness with things running smoothly at work and home. It’s also about feeling secure in relationships. Keeping healthy matters more too. The Quiet Dad

After my granddaughter’s gymnastics, she’d always ask to go to the park next door—even in the winter. When you’re a high energy child, cold is relative. Our routine seemed to overlap with a dad and his son. I’d watch them as I watched my granddaughter go through her favorite activities—crossbar, swings, spinner, and the curly slide.  But the dad was not doing the same. He’d go hand-in-hand with his boy—pointing to trees, clouds, and the texture of the grass. I could see they were in a different place—one of sights, smells, and feels.   His son didn’t speak, so the father spoke into the silence around them.
