Sara and Small Business Saturday


Have you ever met a special person who can make a room brighter and make your mood lighter? This describes Sara. Her high voltage smile creates its own energy, and her enthusiasm is contagious. She loves people and her biggest thrill is helping folks discover new places to visit and experience unforgettable activities, sights, and delicious foods. 

Sara is one of America’s 33 million small business owners. And with her worldwide travels, she brings a bounty of knowledge to her highly curated Leger Experiences.

 


For two summers now, I’ve had the chance to peek behind the curtain of Sara’s Feast by Fire event. She chose a stunning location along the Pacific coast and hosted about thirty guests to a four-course meal prepared by an engaging chef who used locally sourced food—featuring elk, oysters, and geoduck—expertly prepared over an outdoor grill.

 

For those making the Feast by Fire an overnight experience, the evening entertainment was provided by the vast starry skies and the Perseid Meteor Shower. An astronaut told of adventures from far above. A campfire, shared stories with S’mores, and ocean view glamping, made this a lifelong memory.

 


Sara partners with other small businesses to bring together great tastes and unique activities that she knows folks will enjoy now and pack home in their minds for much longer. What a life calling—sharing the beauty the world offers, along with bringing people together to laugh and enjoy themselves. Sometimes gifts come wrapped with time spent in unforgettably awesome ways.

 


As Sara likes to say, “Serving others is my love language, making memories is my calling, and bringing people together is my superpower.” 

 

On the day we salute America’s small businesses, Sara is busy planning events, trips, retreats, and creating indelible experiences. She’d be the first to tell you to support small business owners. 

 

Our nation’s 33 million small businesses also employ almost 62 million Americans. There’s nothing small about that!

Wild or Tame? Which One Are You?

Finally! Research that explains why I act the way I do. Columbia University’s Motivational Science Center studied people’s activities and what brought them the most happiness. Even more telling were how those activities changed as they aged. Twenty-somethings tend to equate happiness with high-energy activities. Words like excited and ecstatic are usually attached to spontaneous things—even risky things—and living life full throttle.  Researchers labeled this Promotion Motivation —the urge to take chances, including career moves that may not work out. The Quiet Dad

After my granddaughter’s gymnastics, she’d always ask to go to the park next door—even in the winter. When you’re a high energy child, cold is relative. Our routine seemed to overlap with a dad and his son. I’d watch them as I watched my granddaughter go through her favorite activities—crossbar, swings, spinner, and the curly slide.  But the dad was not doing the same. He’d go hand-in-hand with his boy—pointing to trees, clouds, and the texture of the grass. I could see they were in a different place—one of sights, smells, and feels.   His son didn’t speak, so the father spoke into the silence around them.
