Name some Pulitzer Prize winners over the last five years.












Name the last ten movies to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.









Name the MLB teams that have won the last ten World Series.

Name the ten richest people in the world.
 











I flunked the test. I’m not much into trivia. Yet, these are some of the best worldly accomplishments. All that work and it's hard to be remembered for it. Time seems to erase the sound of the applause. Next year another team will take the prize. A new movie will be released; a blockbuster book takes its place on the New York Times bestseller list. We forget the old as we grab the new.

Now take this test:

Name three people who taught you something you’ll always remember.

Name a couple teachers who gave you help when you needed it most.

Name five close friends.
 
Name two or three people you can count on…..
no matter what.

Easier test? It was for me. 

I remind myself that it's easier to remember others for their small acts of kindness, rather than those big famous acts that are so easily forgotten.

Whoever gives to others will get richer; those who help others will themselves be helped. Proverbs 11:25

Sexy Selfies: Posting for attention

We’ve all seen the “selfie” pix on Facebook—those self-taken images in varying forms of dress (or undress). Usually they’re female poses taken in public restrooms, dressing rooms, bedrooms, and lots of what used to be private space. Thanks to selfies and social media, it’s open season on privacy—and modesty. Do you have a social media “friend” who has become a serial selfie? Most often selfies are young girls sharing their sexiness with the world. Serial selfies post hundreds of pictures, so it’s hard to ignore the display. The question is why do they do it. Finally! Research that explains why I act the way I do. Columbia University’s Motivational Science Center studied people’s activities and what brought them the most happiness. Even more telling were how those activities changed as they aged. Twenty-somethings tend to equate happiness with high-energy activities. Words like excited and ecstatic are usually attached to spontaneous things—even risky things—and living life full throttle.  Researchers labeled this Promotion Motivation —the urge to take chances, including career moves that may not work out.
